Man charged with Metuchen attempted murder

METUCHEN, Jan. 7 (ZFJ) — Peter Fragoso, 29, of New Brunswick, N.J., has been charged with the attempted murder of a 23-year-old man from Long Branch, N.J., on Dec. 3, 2025.

On Dec. 3, at about 7:34 p.m., the Metuchen Police Department received a 911 call reporting an altercation between two men involving a knife at a residence on Durham Avenue.

Responding police officers found the victim with stab wounds. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

A witness told police that the victim showed up to her residence and walked in unannounced, starting a verbal and physical altercation between him and Fragoso. Per the police’s probable cause affidavit, the witness said that, during the altercation, Fragoso grabbed a knife from the dishwasher. The witness did not see what happened next but confirmed that she did see blood.

The witness ran outside of her residence with her three children and called 911. She said that she saw Fragoso leave the scene and could hear the victim screaming in pain and saying “I’m dying.”

Fragoso was a stranger to the victim.

On Dec. 4, 2025, Fragoso was charged with first-degree attempted murder, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree obstruction. He was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.

The charges against Fragoso are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
