Human remains in College Park prompt homicide investigation

COLLEGE PARK, Md., Dec. 27 (ZFJ) — Human remains found in a park in College Park on Nov. 3 have prompted a homicide investigation.
The Prince George’s County Police Department was assisting the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and FBI Cross Border Task Force with a missing persons investigation when it searched Indian Creek Stream Valley Park and found human remains.
The remains were sent to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which ruled the case a homicide. The victim is Jefferson Amaya-Ayala, 14, of Washington, D.C.
The remains were found in the jurisdiction of the P.G. County division of Maryland-National Capital Park Police. P.G. County police are responsible for investigating all homicides in their jurisdiction, and detectives are working to identify any suspects and a motive.
College Park residents had initially taken notice of federal law enforcement activity in the area and were concerned that federal immigration agents were conducting operations. With this notice, P.G. County police have confirmed that the aforementioned activity was not related to immigration enforcement.
