NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J., Nov. 4 (ZFJ) — A juvenile has been arrested for texting a false bomb threat to a North Brunswick poll on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
At about 8:15 a.m. today, the North Brunswick Police Department began receiving several reports of a bomb threat at Livingston Park Elementary School via text message, according to a statement from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
North Brunswick police officers and Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department explosive detection K-9 officers responded to the polling location and cleared it of any bombs.
Due to the false bomb threat and ensuing police investigation, elections officials had to relocate the poll from the original elementary school to Linwood School.
“These relocations were made out of an abundance of caution and with the highest priority placed on public safety,” said county officials in a statement. “Both alternate locations are in close proximity to the original polling sites, ensuring voters are not disenfranchised or significantly inconvenienced.”
A North Brunswick police detective identified a juvenile suspect, who is a resident of North Brunswick, after an investigation. North Brunswick police took the juvenile into custody and seized the electronic devices used in the threat.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Sergeant Andrew Winter at Andrew.winter@co.middlesex.nj.us or Detective Sean McCorry at smccor@northbrunswicknj.gov or (732) 247-0922 x. 331.
