April 4 (ZFJ) — Wayne Bagley, 68, of South Brunswick was arrested following a five-month investigation, announced South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka on Tuesday, March 5.

According to Hayducka, the joint effort by the South Brunswick Police Department, ATF, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Bagley traveled to other states, purchased handguns at gun shows, and transported the firearms back to New Jersey for resale. Over the course of the investigation, he traveled to West Virginia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. He had been denied a permit to purchase firearms in 2023.

On Thursday, Feb. 29, the Middlesex County Special Operations Response Team (SORT) arrested Bagley as he was driving. Police also executed a search warrant at his Texas Avenue home, where ATF special agents and detectives recovered seven firearms and over one thousand rounds of ammunition.

Detectives impounded Bagley’s vehicle and executed a second search warrant on Tuesday, March 5, recovering additional ammunition and gun cases.

Bagley was charged with the illegal transport and sale of firearms, illegal sale of ammunition, and conspiracy, and was lodged at the Middlesex County Correction Center.
