May 21 (ZFJ) — Nintendo will announce the successor to its Switch console by the end of the current fiscal year—so, by March 31, 2025.

The confirmation came from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa in an X post on the same day the company released its fiscal year 2024 (year ending March 31, 2024) earnings report.

It has been nine years since the Nintendo Switch was first announced in March 2015.

In response to a journalist’s question about the amount of development resources expended on the Switch’s successor, Furukawa observed, “Creating a successor to Nintendo Switch takes years of preparation, so of course many aspects must be taken into consideration in terms of software development resources.”

The company will announce their upcoming Switch software lineup at the next Nintendo Direct, scheduled for this June, but will not discuss the Switch’s successor at this event.

Nintendo did not include an estimate for the number of units of the Switch’s successor it expects to sell in the hardware sales forecast for fiscal year 2025.

Any further “information will be released in stages leading up to the launch, as we have done with previous new hardware announcements,” Furukawa said in the fiscal year 2024 financial results briefing.
